Kristen's 'K-11' To Premiere At 2012 Berlin Film Festival

Intandem Films edged up 0.25p more to 6.13p on further consideration of news of its collaboration with Los Angeles-based Libertine Films for the film K-11, which will premier at next year’s Berlin Film Festival. Jules Stewart, who is mother to Twilight star Kristen Stewart – will make her directorial debut.

Kristen's Prison-Drama 'K-11' To Shoot This Summer

Indiewire: Nearly two years after it was originally set to get in front of cameras, Jules Stewart‘s directorial debut, the ensemble prison drama “K-11” has finally secured financial backing and is set to begin lensing this summer, according to Variety.


The project was developed as a starring vehicle for Stewart’s daughter Kristen and, while her name was not confirmed by sales shingle Intandem to Variety, we’re presuming she’s still on board as it’s a passion project she’s talked about and developed with her mother for years. Stewart last spoke of the film early last year when she lamented the difficulty of getting indie flicks off the ground but concluded that she “still really hoped to do it.”


Also attached at some stage during the project’s gestation were Stewart’s ‘Twilight’ co-star Nikki Reed, who has evidently since dropped out, and Kevin Smith regular Jason Mewes whose involvement now is unknown.


“K-11” references a section of Los Angeles County Jail reserved for homosexuals, with the story centering on two characters that were to be played respectively by Reed and Stewart: Mousey, a tattooed methhead transgender, and an autistic transgender named Butterfly—both residents of the male prison. “Kristen is playing a boy, and I am playing a man who is quite a few years older than she is. I am working more on my accent,” Reed noted at the time. “Mousey is Mexican, and she comes from a very specific place in Southern California.”


Sounds pretty crazy but we guess—with the moneymaking ‘Twilight’ finale and Walter Salles’ “On The Road” both due out this year—there’s never been a better time for Stewart to tackle this risky, leftfield passion project. A premiere for “K-11” at the Berlin Film Festival next year is reportedly being targeted with Tom Wright producing through his shingle, Libertine Films, which holds North American rights.

Directed and written by first-time feature helmer Jules Stewart, the pic is a dark and complex character ensemble set in a special unit of L.A. County's Men's Central Jail dedicated to vulnerable prisoners.


Jules Stewart is the mother of thesp Kristen Stewart, and although press reports have linked the actress with the project, Intandem would not comment, but said casting was now on fast-track.


The indie pic is fully financed and skedded to shoot on location in L.A. this July, and is likely to preem at Berlin next year.


Libertine prexy Tom Wright will produce.


Libertine retains all North American rights for the film, with Intandem's CEO Gary Smith serving as consultant on the negotiations.


Smith said: "Libertine Films has a diverse slate of films and we look forward to developing a long and successful collaboration with them."


Jules Stewart, who is repped by ICM's Joanne Wiles, formed Libertine with Wright after working for many years as a script supervisor.

Birdy, a 19-year-old sweet, red-headed girl (naturally a boy) who befriends the new member and takes care of him. She is flighty like hername, but very damaged. She is raped by a convicted child molester named Detroit who likes Birdy because she is little and young, and to retaliateagainst the abuse she murders him! In the end the K11 unit works together to overthrow the guard who sexually and verbally abuses them. Kristen Stewart’s post-Breaking Dawn production schedule has been the subject of intense scrutiny, and this week there appears to be a new wrinkle.
The actress is still attached to K-11, a drama directed and co-written by her mother, Jules Mann-Stewart.
Now, IMDb and other outlets claim that K-11 will begin production on June 6.
As Gossip Cop reported, Stewart has also been offered the title role in Snow White and the Huntsman, leading many observers to wonder whether there’d be a potential conflict between the two productions.
There will not be.
Gossip Cop looked into it, and a production source on K-11 told us there’s no official start date as of yet.
Should Stewart and the Snow White filmmakers come to a final agreement on their offer to her, it will in no way interfere with K-11.

Kristen Stewart To Play A Man-To-Woman For K-11: Twilight To Transsexual Stuns

From examiner: Kristen Stewart likes to take risks. The latest risk she is attempting with her career would be her decision to play a transsexual in the new movie ‘K-11.’ The film, a family project that has her mother Jules Mann-Stewart as the director has seen setbacks but is now ready to film. Leaving Bella in the dust, this popular face is looking to take on a low budget film that could actually hurt her in the future.


The Twilight actress would play the character Birdy who is a transsexual individual with autism. The man who turns woman is a story about the progression of the individual’s life as well as how one ends up in K-11 especially after the character had once been a music entertainer businessman. The title K-11 is a unit of the Los Angeles prison where Birdy is held and is for inmates not placed in the general population due to gender issues.


According to the Celeb Dirty Laundry, the film is ready to begin on set and the only thing left to do prior to turning on the cameras is finding the time in the Twilight’s actress’s schedule. Leaving us to think about the fact that blood must be thicker than water as no respectable Hollywood actress, especially with a mega-blockbuster film like Twilight would consider this type of role. Unless of course it was your mother was part of the project.

What 2011 Has In Store For 'The Twilight Saga' Cast

Happy New Year, fellow Twi-Hards. I hope you’ve all resolved to watch a little more “Twilight” this year (“Eclipse” was only number four at the 2010 Box Office, we can do better than that!).


Wondering what’s in store for “The Twilight Saga” cast this year? Thankfully, we know they’re all currently shooting “Breaking Dawn” and “Part 1″ will be released on November 18. But since that’s like – I don’t know – 5,000 days away (not exact math), I’m sure I’m not the only one curious to know what other projects our favorite young actors have hitting our local cineplexes this year.


I’ve taken the liberty of calling them each up individually, or spending an excessive amount of time on IMDB (one or the other), to bring you the scoop on what these ”Twilight” stars have in store.

While a popular blockbuster made her career, all of Stewart’s other role choices since becoming Bella Swan are in the sexually devious, art-house wheelhouse. She plays a cheating carny in “Adventureland,” young Joan Jett in “The Runaways” and a teenage stripper/prostitute in “Welcome to the Rileys.” Interesting, right?


In 2011, Stewart will continue to grace low-budget features with her million-dollar pout.


Francis Ford Coppola, after owning the movie rights to Jack Kerouac’s “On The Road” for 31 years, is finally producing an adaptation with Sam Riley as the main character Sal Paradise and Garrett Hedlund (“TRON: Legacy”) as his party-crazed cohort Dean Moriarty. Stewart is playing Moriarty’s first wife Mary Lou, who is a partier, openly flirtatious and sexually devious (natch). When her husband abandons her, she sleeps with one or two or nine sailors to get even. (This one doesn’t have a release date yet, but we’re hoping it makes its way to theaters as planned in ’11.)


In addition, Stewart and her mother are still trying to get funding for “K-11.” Called one of the strangest projects in Hollywood, KStew would play a male-to-female transsexual prisoner with autism and Mama KStew would make her directing debut. All I’m saying is, if playing a male-to-female transsexual prisoner with autism doesn’t win Stewart an Oscar, I don’t know what would.

You can tell from Pattinson’s movie choices that he wants fans to love his brain, not just his looks. Watch out Rob, it took Brad Pitt years to be taken seriously. Pattinson has played a seriously gay Salvador Dali in “Little Ashes” and the seriously dramatic Tyler Hawkins in “Remember Me.” Now he’s slated for two period dramas in 2011. “Water for Elephants” will open on April 22, and casts Pattinson alongside Academy Award winners Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz. Hopefully his acting chops are strong enough to stack up against them, and also the elephant.




The other film is called “Bel Ami,” and no it’s not affiliated with the gay porno company of the same name (in case you were wondering). It’s based on French author Guy de Maupassant’s second novel, published in 1885, and stars Pattinson as a young Parisian climbing to power by manipulating the city’s wealthiest women. “Bel Ami” doesn’t yet have a release date, but you can be sure they’ll be some intensely dramatic love scenes with he and co-stars Christina Ricci and Uma Thurman. Or so a guy can dream.
