Viggo Mortensen has dropped out of yet another high profile Hollywood film and has left the filmmakers behind SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN in a bit of a bind. First time director Rupert Sanders looked like he was going to have quite a cast with Kristen Stewart (still riding the Twilight craze) as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen and Viggo as the Huntsman with a conscience. But since the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Viggo has been attached to and subsequently dropped many big Hollywood films, so this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.
The schtick of taking old fairy tales and turning them into major motion pictures is getting tiresome, so I can’t say I’m too disappointed by this. I’m also not K-stew’s biggest fan, so this isn’t high on my “must watch” list. But all eyes will be on Rupert Sanders and Universal as they try to recover and find another actor to fill Viggo’s shoes. The film is scheduled to hit theaters December 12th, 2012.
